Event publicity

Event PR in Los Angeles that fills the room and the press list.

Last updated: November 2026

Susan von Seggern gets Los Angeles events covered by pairing early announcements with targeted media outreach, daily journalist lead monitoring, and event formats built for the press. Her events PR framework comes from decades of PR and hundreds of events, including festivals, conferences, concerts, fundraisers, author events, and premieres.

How do I get press coverage for my event in Los Angeles?

Give journalists a clear reason to care, tell them early, and keep telling them. That means a news hook, an announcement release, targeted pitches to relevant outlets and podcasts, and a plan for media on the day.

Susan von Seggern runs all of these as one campaign. Her framework is the reason event producers are one of the two client types she prioritizes, alongside companies with launches.

What event PR includes

What is event PR?

Event PR is publicity built around a live moment: a festival, conference, concert, fundraiser, author reading, premiere, or fashion show. It works in two directions. Before the event, coverage sells tickets, recruits participants, and attracts sponsors. During and after it, media in the room produce reviews, interviews, photos, and features that outlast the day itself.

In Susan von Seggern's practice, events are also one of the four pillars of media relations for non-event clients. A company can use a luncheon, a conference talk, or a sponsorship to create news it otherwise would not have. She was interviewed about her events framework, which she developed across hundreds of events.

Six formats event PR can take

Susan von Seggern's framework lists these forms of event PR:

  • Producing large-scale celebrity and media events
  • Small-scale media introduction events, such as cocktail hours or luncheons
  • Event sponsorships
  • Exhibiting or speaking at conferences
  • Exhibiting at gifting events
  • Gift bag inclusions

Not every campaign needs a big party. The right format depends on your audience, your budget, and the outlets you want to reach.

Procedure

How an event PR campaign runs, step by step

This sequence draws on the four pillars of Susan von Seggern's media relations framework. Timing and scale change with each event.

  1. Find the news hook and announce early

A save-the-date or call-for-participation release can recruit performers, vendors, and sponsors while alerting media. SewDown 2024 announced in September for an October show.

  2. Build the target list

Identify the outlets and contacts that matter for this audience, including podcasts and hyper-local outlets near the venue.

  3. Release and service the announcement

Share milestones by exclusive or pre-brief, follow with email servicing to media contacts, and post to Business Wire if budgeted.

  4. Watch for journalist requests

Daily monitoring of five lead service feeds, plus journalist emails and Substacks, surfaces reporters already writing about related topics.

  5. Bring media to the event

Invite press and influencers, arrange interviews with speakers or performers, and use formats such as red carpets, luncheons, or gift bags where they fit.

  6. Keep the story going

Sustained outreach continues after the doors close, so coverage can follow the event as well as precede it.

SewDown, LA Fashion Week Fall 2024

Designer Atousa G's show and sale, presented by The HER Group, returned for Los Angeles Fashion Week on October 19, 2024. The September announcement called for runway lines, visual artists, and vendors, and named a DJ lineup headlined by Marques Wyatt. Hollywood Carnival Parade and Festival

In its sixth year in 2017, the parade took over Hollywood Boulevard on June 24, running three miles from Edgemont Street in Los Feliz to the Carnival Culture Village at Highland Avenue. The release listed more than 30 bands and six related events around Los Angeles from June 22 to 25, including a Welcome to Hollywood party and a day party on North Las Palmas Avenue.

2015 DIY Convention

The 14th annual DIY Convention: Do It Yourself in Film, Music and Books, produced by JM Northern Media, ran March 6 and 7 with a showcase luncheon at Bardot in Hollywood, a film festival screening at the Lyric Hyperion Theater in Silver Lake, and a free panel schedule at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

More answers in the FAQ

Does event PR mean throwing a big launch party?

Not necessarily. In Susan von Seggern’s framework, event PR can mean producing a large celebrity and media event, but it can also be a small media introduction such as a cocktail hour or luncheon, an event sponsorship, exhibiting or speaking at a conference, exhibiting at a gifting event, or gift bag inclusions.

More answers in the FAQ

How far ahead should event PR start?

Earlier is generally better, because many outlets plan coverage and calendar listings in advance and a save-the-date release can recruit participants and sponsors. For example, the SewDown 2024 announcement went out in September for an October show. The right lead time depends on your event and target outlets, so confirm a timeline with Susan directly.

More answers in the FAQ

Can PR include gifting events and gift bag inclusions?

Yes. Exhibiting at gifting events and placing products in gift bags are both listed as forms of event PR in Susan von Seggern’s framework. They put a product directly in front of media, influencers, and talent. Whether they fit your campaign depends on your product and audience, which is worth discussing when you reach out.

More answers in the FAQ

What is hyper-local coverage and why does it matter?

Hyper-local coverage is press from neighborhood and community outlets close to where a client operates or holds an event. Susan von Seggern lists it among the latest PR tactics she uses. For a Los Angeles event, local outlets reach the people most likely to attend, which complements broader media outreach.
